Destination: Budgie Rides To The Budgie

Ride Leader: Budgie

On Friday May 13 at 08:00 I saddled up at Kallangur and started the 504km ride down to the Motto Guzzi Club of (QLD) annual Ruptured Budgie Rally at Mingoola NSW.

I decided to head down to the rally via Canungra, Beadessert, Rathdowney and Kyogle before making my way to Casino, where I headed out to Drake and Tenterfield. This route ensured that I got to ride some great roads that have some awesome scenery along the way. I arrived at the rally site at 16:40, just in time for beer o'clock.

The Ruptured Budgie it is a back to basics style of motorcycle rally, with old school bush camping and open camp fires to sit around with friends while enjoying a few drinks and telling tall tales.

The local Lions club did a bang-up job of providing food for all the people that came along, while the Motto Guzzi club provided a beer stall for those that weren't interested in eating. This proved to be a very profitable enterprise, with all proceeds being donated to the local school and Bush Fire Brigade.

On Saturday afternoon, the games began.

Skill was demonstrated by many a biker at the Gymkana, those that didn't show much skill had fun anyway. After the fun was done with, everyone gathered around a huge bonfire to socialise and and indulge in some excellent food and drink

Sunday morning saw an early rise and a breakfast of champions washed down with hot coffee, before packing up camp and heading for home via Stanthorpe where we stopped for a refuel  and stretch.

We continued to Warwick and down along the Cunningham Highway into Ipswich and Brisbane and then meandered our way through the northern suburbs where we arrived in mid afternoon.

In total we covered 837km during a fun filled weekend get-away.
